Unexpected Network Error occurs when fetching CLOB data of 254 bytes on an Oracle 11g non-English database hosted on Solaris

Troubleshooting

Problem

Using an Oracle 11g non-WE8MSWIN1252 database hosted on Solaris, the DataDirect driver for IBM Rational ClearQuest returns an error when attempting to fetch CLOB data if the length of the last section of the data is 254 bytes.

Symptom

Here is the full error message:

[IBM Rational DataDirect][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver][Oracle]Unexpected Network Error

Cause

A defect in the third-party DataDirect driver for ClearQuest connections to Oracle.

Environment

This problem occurs on Solaris platforms.

Diagnosing The Problem

The database is an Oracle 11g non-WE8MSWIN1252 database hosted on Solaris and the error message specified previously appears. Try fetching data of a different length to see if the action succeeds.

Resolving The Problem

This problem no longer occurs with the DataDirect drivers included with ClearQuest starting in version 7.1.1.3. Upgrade to the latest version of ClearQuest to resolve this problem.

WORKAROUND

Host the Oracle 11g non-WE8MSWIN1252 database on an operating system other than Solaris.

Note: Oracle 11g databases that use the WE8MSWIN1252 character set work fine on Solaris.
