Error description

  • It seems that in some cases (intermittently), merging of csproj
files will result in corruption of some characters. Good, reada
ble characters will be replaced with bad characters at what appe
ar to be random areas of the file.
An example of this is attached. The corrupted characters can b
e seen in lines 174, 242, and 301 of file DevV14.csproj. Once in
this state, the file cannot be used in Visual Studio and the co
rruption needs to be removed or the version deleted.
    Corrupted lines look like this:
    ?Compile Include=Ef?ectiveFinancingStatementContinuationALInstan
    ceTest.cs /?
in this case the second f in effective is replaced by '?'.
