Help to optimize performance by increasing extent sizes

With IBM Spectrum® Protect Version 8.1.12, you can increase the size of extents that are used for data deduplication operations. In some circumstances, specifying a value that is higher than the default can improve the performance of backup and expiration operations. A larger extent size might also help to prevent unnecessary database growth.

In most system environments, the default extent size of 50 KB is appropriate. However, if you plan to deduplicate data from an Oracle or SAP database, consider increasing the extent size. To set the extent size, use the REGISTER NODE or UPDATE NODE command and specify the MINIMUMEXTENTSIZE parameter. Before you specify a value other than the default, evaluate the storage environment and consider the tradeoffs, which are described in the REGISTER NODE and UPDATE NODE command topics.
